LKRA's April Membership Meeting featured a presentation from the All Star Children's Foundation. The All Star Children's Foundation is drawing national attention by introducing a new concept in foster care, designed to help children heal from trauma experienced by abuse and neglect, at their campus 17th Street in Sarasota. LKRA's March Membership Meeting was a special joint meeting with the St. Armands Residents Association and the Lido Shores Neighborhood Association. We are honored to host Mote's Dr. Jake Lasala and Dr. Michael P. Crosby as our guests. Dr. Crosby captivated the audience with Mote's vision of "Improving communities’ access to marine science and technology while enabling Mote’s scientific progress on City Island, Sarasota. He previewed Oceans For All and the future development of the research facilities on City Island, as well as updates on coral restoration and red tide mitigation. Dr. Lasala, Manager of Mote's Sea Turtle Conservation and Research briefed us on local sea turtle nesting and projects involving turtles he and his team are researching. Both took Q&A's.

Our February meeting immediately followed our Annual Member Breakfast. Our guest speaker, John McCarthy, Vice President for Regional History (Marie Selby Botanical Gardens) captivated the members with a wonderful slide presentation of the history of Lido.
Our annual business meeting followed. Secretary Kathy Kussy announced all existing Board members agreed to serve another term and that the Board voted unanimously to keep all officers the same as the prior year.

Marlon Brown, City Manager, City of Sarasota presented an update on the projects both on the keys and within the City. View Slides Below
Nik Patel - City Engineering introduced a new program the City of Sarasota is partnering with Mote Marine to use volunteer residents to monitor Red Tide. More Information
Richard Harris – CCNA Chairman gave an update on a pilot program aimed at reducing speeding in our neighborhoods.
Chris Goglia – President, St. Armands Residents Association updated us on the St. Armands' BID request to have "Winter on the Circle" again this coming year.

Bill Waddill – The Bay, Chief Operating Officer presented an update on the Bay Project's Guiding Principles:
Phase I: Phase I is now open. This includes parking, free activities, 4 national regestries on site, and restoring the environment by treating the water into the bay. On December 2nd the concession area will also be open.
Future: Twice as much park development will be done in the next 3 years.
Lou Costa – CCNA Chairman introduced us to a pilot program aimed at reducing speeding in our neighborhoods. Lido has asked to be a part of the pilot.
Chris Goglia – President, St. Armands Residents Association updated us on the St. Armands' Bid request for allowing boutique hotels to be built on the circle.
Todd Kerkering – Emergency Manager for the City of Sarasota:
Todd gave an update on the hurricane cleanup. The city has picked up 77,000 cubic yards of debris in the past 23 days. 400 work orders have been completed but asked members to watch at lights and signs that still need work. They will soon be announcing a final pick up for debris and asked that no debris be put in the streets. Construction debris should not be placed on landscape debris. The army corps will be reviewing the minor damage to the beach. Residents were reminded that when asked to evacuate, it means mandatory whether stated or not.
City and County Commissioner Candidates - Election November 8, 2022
Candidates were given 3-5 minutes to address the membership. There were no questions taken at this time. City candidates, Dan Lobeck, Debbie Trice, and Jen Ahearn-Koch spoke first, followed by county candidates, Fred Atkins and Mark Smith.
Our April Meeting was held on April 16th at the Lido Beach Resort. Our guest speakers were Gary Brumley, ADA Coordinator for City of Sarasota talking about EcoRovers, an all-terrain tracked wheelchair (for the beach) and Kylie Wilson, Shorebird Coordinator, Audubon Florida talking about efforts to protect the nesting birds on Lido and other barrier islands. Kylie has shared her presentation below. A special thank-you to both Gary and Kylie.
Our March Member Meeting was held on March 19th at the Lido Beach Resort. Our guest speaker was Hannah Chabica, the City's Vacation Rental Specialist assigned to the barrier islands. Hannah brought us up to date on the implementation of the Vacation Rental Ordinance aimed at mitigating the problems we experience with large residential homes rented short term, known as "hotel Houses". ANNUAL MEETING: Our Annual Meeting was held on Saturday February 19, 2022, at the Longboat Key Club. This was our first meeting exclusively in person since the onset of COVID-19.
